Meneses was born in Chicago, Illinois.She is of Mexican descent on her father's side and Ukrainian heritage on her mother's side. Meneses was a summer participant at Chicago's The Second City Improvisational Theater. Immediately upon graduation of high school, she was offered an offer to model with Milan, Italy. Originally, her stay in Italy was to last only three months, but she was in love with Italy and decided to stay for two years, becoming a successful model. Meneses moved to Los Angeles after she returned to the United States. She studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Institute. In 1995, Meneses was a regular cast member of the Showtime comedy show Sherman Oaks. Then she was cast in the role of Teresa Morales, the role which replaced Michelle Bonilla in the last season of CBS' western drama series Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. Selena was also in a part-time character in a variety of films, including Auto Focus, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, and Selena.
